Debt-ridden Avery Fleming is determined to find a wealthy husband for his beautiful daughter, Erienne, so he can pay off his mountain of debts. He was a creep but he also had power, so he could get away with it, and in the time period of the story, people were not openly disagreeing or hostile. It was in third-person unlimited, so sometimes the switching around of perspective was distracting, but I guess I have to be thankful that it wasn’t all in the point of view of Erienne.
