Whitehead and Science Education. The Newtonian physics view of reality was based on the idea that once the universe started all following events were predetermined by specific unvarying laws–the orbital path of planets, death of stars, etc. The ending which prefigures his death in from a mountain climbing accident is truly poignant. The author extends the discussion to his personal views about God and religion.

In addition, it explains in detail “Bell’s Inequality”as it applies to the Quantum phenomenon of “Entanglement” which has been misinterpreted as proof of the existence of what Einstein called “spooky information at at distance,” equivalent to Star Trek’s “Beam Me Up Scotty!

Heinz R. Pagels, The Cosmic Code: Quantum Physics as the Language of Nature – PhilPapers

From Physics to Metaphysics. I asked my favorite bookseller, and my prof, for a book that would give me a basic overview of quantum payels. Just read it and you’ll see. There are no discussion topics on this book yet. The author makes it not merely understandable, but quite interesting. Oct 08, Lodovico Mazzei rated it it was amazing.

Pagels is unfailingly lighthearted and confident. I would have followed his writings like a squealing fangirl. Add both to Cart Add both to List.

I will revisit portions of this book again. Fractals, Chaos, Power Laws: Bell’s Theorem forever demolishes the Einsteinian views of of local hidden variable determinism.

This leads to an interesting statement by Pagels at the end of chapter 8: Return to Book Page. Einstein’s Theory of Relativity. It is purposely light on the maths side for example, I would have appreciated some detail on fundamental items such as the Wave Equation, Bohr’s model of the atom, Schroedinger Equation, wave phase Pagels’ work is probably one of the best layperson introduction to both understanding and “interpreting” Quantum Mechanics.

I have found that reading older texts sometimes helps the layman or beginner understand highly abstract and difficult concepts in science, notably relativity and quantum mechanics. My favorite book in high school. Explore the Home Gift Guide. Pagels death from an accident at an early age was sad. The concepts that are exposed provide no revolutionary idea or so, but are clear and fully explained through examples and metaphors.

Thanks, Pagels is pretty good.

May 15, Malli rated it it was amazing. The Cosmic Code avoids falling into the trap of promoting theories that violate causality, frame independence or both. I doubt that anyone without prior exposure will be able to understand Relativity from Pagels’ account.

Shopbop Designer Fashion Brands. This is often very difficult to describe, but Pagels did it brilliantly. But I cosmkc pleasantly surprised to learn that Pagels in his shortened professional life taught and mentored Seth Lloyd who has certainly continued to carry the baton in “quantum computation” to this day.
