I would al given it 1 star, but the writing was good, so I decided to be nice. Personally it wasn’t a favourite, I found myself overwhelmed and bombarded with so much tragedy and injustice and found no love in any of the characters, but I really appreciated so much of what happened and really enjoyed learning more about magical realism.

The reader can follow Esteban as his political views become increasingly conservative for each passing year, and he starts on a personal crusade against communists, atheists and everyone else he considers to be a threat to the state of things. However, I did not care for the male narration as much, from the point of view of Esteban Trueba.
There is snow on the ground and the characters are dressed for winter. It makes the story so predictable because it is.
