So anyways, I was totally embarassed. It’s a thick book. I’ll never forget the first time I read this book. So of course it’s full of all kinds of horrible treatment of women, and of course it’s going to make a modern reader a bit frustrated, but as in my case completely fascinate them as well.

I’ve heard so much about this series of books, particularly with the most recent and apparently last of the series?? Ayla’s story isn’t without struggle and difficulty, but it also contains strength and love and a ferocity that I absolutely adore.

While I am sure this is more realistic than having Clan women burning their bras or whatever they would have used for brasit is not for everyone and was rather uncomfortable at times to listen to. I think that dynamic is what made this book so riveting to me. I make an effort to give you the information so you can make an informed decision before reading. As a lover of the Historical Fiction genre, a book about prehistory is the ultimate.

It is cavernafio by Sandra Burr who was new to me. As a child born to the Others a Cro Magnon group living in another areaAyla’s differences are cagernario apparent to everyone else, but she grows to be a respected and integral part of the Clan. I’ve heard so much about “[Ayla] was a woman, and she had more courage than you This book was powerful for me.

That said, The Clan of the Cave Bear has no peers. I can not believe how much I loved this book. Women are basically treated like property. Sometimes it would make it off of the shelf into a book line up and just lost out to other books that I was feeling at the time. I find it sad that this story could have been staged in any period of history.

Her life with the Clan isn’t easy, their traditions are very different to those she was brought up with and she finds it hard to understand why she isn’t allowed to do the things she wants to do.

Regardless, Jean Auel clearly researched the available material and provide and interesting look into prehistoric life. It’s so interesting to read about the clan’s reasoning for dividing the gender roles so clearly. Paperbackpages. I loved how she learned to hunt with a sling, and I liked how she became a good medicine woman, how she would drop everything to try to save someone’s life.

It was unlike anything I have ever read before.

El Clan del Oso Cavernario

It’s equally a story of love and abuse. Iza and Creb, the old Mog-ur, grow to love her, and as Ayla learns the ways of the Clan and Iza’s way of healing, most come to accept her. The minimal dialogue feels natural and comfortable. The ideas of the shared and instinctual memory was fascinating as it gave the Neanderthals both a human and animalistic feel.

It’s about this little girl Ayla who is left orphaned and alone during prehistoric times, then picked up and raised by Neanderthals. Iza is a medicine woman and although the child is one of the “Others” a Cro-Magnon human and very different to the Clan who are Neanderthals she is unable to walk away fro Ayla is just 5 years old when she loses her entire family and everyone she has ever known to a cave in caused by an earthquake.

This novel of awesome beauty and power is a moving saga about people, relationships, and the boundaries of love. Does she find a mate? Completely alone and without the skills she needs to survive she wanders aimlessly until she is injured by a cave lion and she is close to death when members of the Clan of the Cave Bear find her.

El Clan del Oso Cavernario by Jean M. Auel (5 star ratings)

But really, everybody has dealt with those issues, and will be able to empathize with the characters. This flan has been hidden because it contains cavernairo. While I had read that that book wasn’t so hot, I did read reviews that praised the first few books. For me, this story explores a time that I have My 7 Favorite read of A Unique and Entrancing 5 Stars When I am rating a book, I am internally comparing that book to other similar books in the genre and asking myself if it is on par with the best I have read.

I hope I get to read the rest of the series. She’s way up there in my new favorite characters list and I’m excited to watch her continue to grow in the subsequent installments in this series. The idea of gods and Totem animals as guiding factors for life certainly seem plausible as belief systems for societies like this one, and even the rituals and strange occurrences could relate to magic.

It made me really start to think how things that seem so basic and simple and easy to us c,an are the products of years and ages of evolution and development from beings much like these. I caevrnario been caverjario with the last several books so the last one did not surprise me at all. That was a great adventure of a read!

I also loved that Ayla was an innovative and strong woman, and I enjoyed learning about botany and medicinal uses for plants as she became a medicine woman.
